What's a nonChristian to think
about Christian behavior?

If you're a nonChristian, you may have gotten the impression over the years that Christians act sort of loopy.

Well, you'd be absolutely right. We do. But there's a good explanation for our sometimes nauseating behavior.

We're in love.

I'm betting you've been in love some time in your life. Yeah? Then you recognize our symptoms: generally dumb behavior, laughing too much, babbling about how wonderful the object of our love is, and often having a dopey, vacant expression on our faces. Having been in love yourself, you understand that much of it.

But if you're a nonChristian, you may find that whole concept kind of juvenile. How can Christians be in love with someone we've never even seen?

Our answer would be that God is a different kind of life form than us, who doesn't need to be seen to exist. You may doubt the existence of God, and if he does exist, whether he cares about people, or whether he's really as wonderful as we loopy Christians make him out to be.

Let's assume for a minute, just for the sake of argument, that God does exist. Does that justify all the weird stuff Christians do?

What about TV evangelists?

How about those TV evangelists with the two-story hair and thousand-dollar suits and the name-it-and-claim-it message that if you're right with God he'll make you rich? Nope. That's not what Jesus said, and they know it. Frankly, most Christians find them an embarrassment.

Just because we're Christians doesn't mean we've lost the ability to spot a phony.

So how about this Jesus business then, the prayer, and all the rest of it? Deluded self-talk? Some sort of self-hypnosis or psychological crutch? Huh-uh. That's those New Age folks with their crystals and visualization and channeling their grandma's dead cat. That stuff's for people who want religion but don't want to have to deal with God.

Then there are the tough guys, those macho, big pickup truck-driving, .44 magnum-shooting, beer-guzzling types who think it's creepy for a Christian man to love Jesus, who was also a man during his ministry on earth. Unfortunately, those fellas just don't grasp the relationship between creations (us) and Creator (Jesus). There's nothing gay about it, just like there's nothing gay about a younger brother loving his older brother, and vice versa.

Christians, as a group, are like most diverse groups. You've got your NFL fans who can quote statistics, diagram plays, and discuss the finer points of the game with remarkable intellect. Then you've got the guys who take off their shirts in 5 degree weather so everybody can see the yellow "G" they painted on their chest.

What Christians are not

If you're a nonChristian, you probably have a good reason for feeling the way you do, and I don't think I'm going to convert you here. But I will tell you this: Christians are not stupid.

Some of the wisest men and women throughout history have been Christians. Today, old Christians, with wrinkled faces and hearts that have been scarred by every kind of disappointment and pain known to man, had to learn the hard way. When they were sick, alone, frightened, broke and bitter, they discovered something astounding about Jesus Christ.

You can call it a secret if you want. You can call it the most shocking truth you'll ever find. You can call it unbelievable or even far-fetched. But these folks, whose troubles make yours and mine look childish in comparison, found out something about Jesus Christ that turned their entire life around. What did they discover?

That he's real.
.

So please don't run from this site if you're a nonChristian, ok? You came here because something in your life isn't working.

Just sample a few pages and decide for yourself. Whether you're just a little discouraged or whether you've hit rock bottom, read some of our stuff with an open mind.

You just might find something worthwhile.
