Huh? Weakness is good?"

What's so great about weakness?

May's feature article covers something we all hate to talk about: our weakness.

Many singles refuse to even admit they have any weaknesses. They put on a front of self-confidence, strength, and try to give others the impression they couldn't be happier, thank-you-very-much.

One of the best aspects of the Christian life is that it shows us how weak we really are. Ten Commandments? Couldn't keep 'em if somebody put a gun to my head. Be a perfect person with no trace of hypocrisy? Ha! Can't do that either.

We can't begin to measure up. No matter how old we are, we still can't stand on our own two feet.

But in the upside-down world of Christianity, weakness is actually good. Weakness is the secret to victorious living. See What's so great about weakness?

He is strong

Some days it seems like everyone's moving
while I am just standing still.
I think about all the things I'll accomplish
but doubt that I ever will.

Some days fear is a constant companion
when I want so much to trust.
I can't seem to work up the courage I need
and all I can feel is disgust.

I wanted to do what I could not do,
but I didn't know where to start.
So I gave in to God,
I fell to my knees
and invited him into my heart.

He showed me His wonderful power
He was waiting for me all along
He whispered this lifesaving message to me,
"Where you are weak, I am strong."

Where I am weak, He is strong.
He does what I can't do alone.
His love works wonders down deep in my soul,
In ways that I've never known.

Where I am weak, He is strong.
He does the things I cannot do.
His love is the strength that carries me through.
Where I am weak, He is strong.

May's Quote of the Month

May's quotation comes from Joni Eareckson Tada, Christian author, speaker, painter, and leader of the ministry Joni and Friends:

Deny your weakness, and you will never
realize God's strength in you.

~ Joni Eareckson Tada (1949- ) ~

Joni knows. Injured in a diving accident in 1967, she has been a quadriplegic in a wheelchair since that day. Most of us don't face the physical challenges Joni does every day, but we do deal with the same spiritual problems.

The apostle Paul understood 2,000 years ago. When he despaired about his own personal weakness, God told him: “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” (2 Cor. 12:9, NIV)

We don't have to go through this single life alone, not when God is so eager to help us. Know what Paul knew and Joni knows: When things get tough, God is there for us to draw on.

I'm talkin' at ya again!

What is the Full Armor of God and how can it protect you against sneak attacks? I explained it in a short talk on UCB Ireland Radio this past Easter.

But wait! You don't need a time machine to listen to the broadcast. You can hear me on this special link.

When you get to the page, you can move the slider button over to 30:04 in the Easter Spotlight program to hear me talk on this passage from Ephesians 6:10-18.
