Nobody wants me"
March 15, 2016

March 15, 2016 Issue #120

'Nobody wants me' is based on emotion, not truth

In the Land of Everything's Wonderful, nobody would ever say "Nobody wants me," but millions of singles secretly say that to themselves.

After a string of failed romances, or a long stretch of not dating at all, that feeling of rejection can drag you down like a wet, heavy blanket. In the Land of Everything's Wonderful, we're often judged by who we're arm-in-arm with, and if your arm is empty, well, not good. Or at least that's what "they" say.

This is a problem nobody wants to talk about, but in this month's feature article I'm going to talk about it at length, in hopes that my own dumb indulgence in this blunder will help others pull out of it.

You see, I'm kind of a slow learner. For years I beat myself up and persisted in faulty thinking that held me back. I'm not proud of that. The good news, though, is if you can see what I did wrong, you can avoid it yourself, or at least stop doing it too.

Life is moving at warp speed. Before you know it, years have gone by. None of us can afford to stay stuck in self-destructive behavior. If I ever get too preachy, you can send me an email and call me on it. But at least I have good intentions.

I want you to grasp the good things God has for you. I want you to get your self-worth from your relationship with Jesus, not things you buy or even who your significant other is.

So here's how I finally got out of the trap of thinking "nobody wants me."

One step

How do you know what to keep and let go?
How do you know what to do?
How do you know whom you should follow?
How do you know what is true?

Every day you are faced with decisions,
a torrent of choices to make.
It's so overwhelming you often stand frozen.
You don't know which pathway to take.

Should you listen to friends or your old-fashioned parents?
Whose advice should you heed?
You're in a state of constant anxiety.
Where are the answers you need?

There's One who is wiser than everyone else.
His love is a light shining through.
His counsel is perfect and always on time.
And He wants only good things for you.

Open your Bible and read His love letter.
In faith you can heed His command.
You will weather the storms that batter your life
but safe on His word you will stand.

God wants to show you the journey ahead.
He'll guide you along as you climb.
His Word is the map that will keep you on course.
He'll lead you, one step at a time.

March Quote from Ravi Zacharias

This month's Quotation of the Month comes from one of my favorite authors, preachers, and Christian apologists, Ravi Zacharias. He leads RZIM Ministries and hosts the TV program "Let My People Think":

There is no greater discovery than seeing God as the author of your destiny.
~ Ravi Zacharias (1946- ) ~

We can trust ourselves, we can trust the government, and we can trust celebrities, and we'll be disappointed. But if we trust in God, we can be certain we'll eventually get where we want to go.

Your destiny is in God's hands. That's why it's crucial to cling tightly to him all your life. When you have an accurate view of who God is--a loving Father who wants only the best for you--you can trust him with your destiny.

I used to think I knew what was best for me. Ha! What a fool I was. My life has not been spectacular. I'm not rich or famous. But I have contentment knowing I'm in the will of God. Stop struggling against God. Follow his guidance and you'll find peace and happiness.

Quotations about my favorite book

For years I couldn't understand the Bible because I was reading a plain King James Version. Then I bought a copy of The Life Application Study Bible and it was like a beautiful flower opened before me, bathing me in the fragrance of its wisdom.

The LASB has thousands of footnotes that teach you how to apply the verse you've read to your own life. It's real-world practical. It's easy to understand. It made all the difference in the world for me.

The Bible holds incredible gifts for you. It's God's wisdom, from his mind to your mind. Even better, as you're reading, the Holy Spirit makes it relevant to your individual life. Here are some quotes from famous Christians about the Bible:

We look upon prayer as a means of getting things for ourselves; The Bible idea of prayer is that we may get to know God Himself.
Oswald Chambers

The more you read the Bible; and the more you meditate on it, the more you will be astonished with it.
Charles Spurgeon

Every Christian who does not study, really study, the Bible every day is a fool.
R.A. Torrey

The Bible is the portrait of Jesus Christ.
John Stott

The Bible offers three metaphors that teach us God's view of life: Life is a test, life is a trust and life is a temporary assignment.
Rick Warren

The Bible was not given to increase our knowledge but to change our lives.
D.L. Moody

If you have a Bible that's falling apart, you'll have a life that's not.
Adrian Rogers

The Bible is clear that those who fail to heed the Lord's discipline - whether nations, cities, or individuals - suffer devastating consequences.
Charles Stanley

I read the Bible every day.
Denzel Washington

Easter is a time to change your life

This month we celebrate Easter, the Christian observance of Jesus Christ's resurrection from the dead.

Jesus' death on the cross and resurrection mean those who believe in him as Savior have their sins forgiven and are assured of eternal life with him in heaven. It's also a fitting time for us singles to make changes in our lives.

We all have dozens of little anchors dragging behind us, holding us back. Cut the lines on those. Give up bad habits. End self-sabotage. Start loving yourself as God loves you.

This issue of Inspire-O-Gram had some messages that may be hard to take. I try not to lecture or be harsh. But I want you to move ahead. I want you to enjoy your present and look forward to your future. You're always welcome to send me your comments using our gluten-free contact form or email me at jack@inspiration-for-singles.com.

Spring is on the way, with flowers, budding leaves and new life. I like to thank God for the natural beauty he gives us. When you have Spring in your heart, it puts spring in your step!

Until April, be grateful for small delights,
