Why should a nonChristian believe anything on this site?

Most of the people who come to this site are nonChristian, like you.

Since we get visitors from more than 150 countries, they include Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, Jews, and quite a few atheists.

Single atheists are not immune to the problems single people have.  They simply cope with them differently than I, a Christian, do.

But if you're not a Christian, or you don't believe in God at all, you're probably thinking this site doesn't have anything of value for you.

Maybe you have some beliefs already about who Christians are, what we believe, and why you think we're wrong.

Only two kinds of people stay on this site and learn something helpful: Christians, and people with an open mind.

I respect your beliefs.  That's why you won't find any articles here that talk down to you or assume you're stupid because I know a few things you don't.

Look, it's all about experience here.  I've probably been a single person longer than you have.  Who would you want performing surgery on you:  a doctor fresh out of medical school, or an older, experienced doctor who has performed that operation thousands of times?

So let's see if you really do have an open mind.  Please read on...

What do NonChristians think of us?

I'd be the first to admit that some so-called Christians are downright embarrassing.

How about those TV evangelists with the two-story hair and thousand-dollar suits and the name-it-and-claim-it message that if you're right with God he'll make you rich? Nope. That's not what Jesus said, and they know it.

Just because we're Christians doesn't mean we've lost the ability to spot a phony.  And there are plenty of phony Christians.

So how about this Jesus business then, prayer, and all the rest of it? Deluded self-talk? Some sort of imaginary friend or psychological crutch?

Huh-uh. That's those New Age folks with their crystals and visualization and The Secret and channeling their grandma's dead cat. That stuff's for people who want religion but don't want to have to deal with God.

Christians are often criticized by nonChristians as being intolerant. Authentic Christians live by the commandments spelled out by God in the Bible. If we follow those commands, it's God who is intolerant.

God is intolerant of sin.  That's where the argument comes in:  what is sin and what isn't.  Christians believe God is a better judge of right and wrong than humans are.  Doesn't human history bear that out?

Here's what Christians are not

If you're a nonChristian, you probably have a good reason for feeling the way you do.  Here's something you may find surprising:

I'm not going to convert you on this web site.

Most of us continue in the religion of our parents or our country.  If you're an atheist, I'm not going to argue with you.

But here's the thing I will argue about.  Authentic Christians are not stupid.  There's a common belief that we're naive, unscientific, ignorant, or just choose to close our eyes to the real world.

All untrue.

Some of the wisest men and women throughout history have been Christians.  Read any of the books by Augustine or C.S. Lewis and you'll find your brain getting such a workout that smoke will come out of your ears.

Today, old Christians with wrinkled faces and hearts that have been scarred by every kind of disappointment and pain known to man, had to learn the hard way. When they were sick, alone, frightened, broke and bitter, they discovered something astounding about Jesus Christ.

You can call it a secret if you want. You can call it the most shocking truth you'll ever find. You can call it unbelievable or even far-fetched. But these folks, whose troubles make yours and mine look childish in comparison, found out something about Jesus Christ that turned their entire life around. What did they discover?

That he's real..

You came here because something in your life isn't working.  All I ask is that you keep an open mind and not click away because you haven't heard some of this before.

Just sample a few pages and decide for yourself. Whether you're just a little discouraged or whether you've hit rock bottom, read some of our stuff with an open mind.

You just might find something worthwhile.
